The next cycling visit to Babergh Lodge on Wednesday 25th October was an easy one, being only 3.5 miles to get to the Sudbury masonic center. Brother Andy made the easy and uneventful journey, making it as hard as he possibly could with a relentless sprint all the way there. Arriving early there were no Brothers around and Bro Andy was attempting a selfie to show proof of his visit when the hall Steward Max came downstairs wondering what on earth a Lycra clad mason was doing trying to take a picture of himself outside the door of the Lodge! Thankfully Bro Max saved the day and took the photo for him. Bro Andy then cycled back home just as the Babergh Brethren began arriving, quickly changing into more suitable attire and returning to the Lodge.

Brother Nick joined Brother Andy back at the Hall and they were warmly greeted by the Babergh Brethren most of whom they already knew. The ceremony this evening was an initiation and the Worshipful Master, WBro Melvyn Newman and his officers carried out an excellent ceremony. Mr Ian Davey was made a Brother and welcomed into the craft. WBro Andy was given the opportunity to explain a little more about the cycling challenge and their progress to date. The Worshipful Master thanked Bro Andy and said that the raffle this evening would be donated to the cyclist’s challenge.

Following the meeting the Brethren retired to the bar to socialize and enjoy a beer or two. The festive board was an excellent meal of Steak and Ale Suet pudding, which the Lodge generously treated the cyclists to. There was the usual good cheer and conversation. Brother Andy was presented with the proceeds of the raffle which realized £172, for which he thanked the Lodge and all present.

So, thank you Babergh Lodge for your warm welcome and treating us as Lodge guests and paying for our meals. For your generous support of the challenge and the generous donation of £172.

There was no van support and Brother Andy cycled home to double the mileage!
