On Wednesday 11th November W Bro Andy Gentle and Bro Nick Moulton set out to visit Virtue & Silence Lodge in Hadleigh. The weather had been wet that week but the cyclists struck lucky and made the short trip over to Hadleigh without getting wet, a different story to the previous week! It was a pleasant journey with the temperature unseasonably warm for the time of year. The only hazard on this journey being the numerous pheasants and partridges that were in abundance in the Autumnal Suffolk Countryside. The 13 miles took just under 50 minutes to dispatch and they arrived just before it got dark, once again travelling the journey on mountain bikes. The bikes were picked up a little while later by WBro Andy’s wife, Julie, in the company van and the boys were quickly changed and ready for the meeting.
The ceremony was to be an initiation and the Worshipful Master WBro Spindler initiated Mr Andrew Rogers into the Lodge, in a very sincere and moving manner, and together with the officers and Brethren who took part it made for a most enjoyable ceremony. The festive board that followed was a very friendly event, a hearty meal to re-stock the energy levels, very generously paid for by a member of the Lodge, and once again great camaraderie and conversation. W Bro Andy Gentle was called upon to reply to the visitors toast and took the opportunity to explain in more detail about the challenge that he and Nick were embarked upon. He thanked the Brethren for their hospitality and welcome and for the donation of £125 from the raffle. A further personal donation of £10 was received making the sum raised for the evening a most appreciated £135.
WBro Gentle is now also using the opportunity of visiting all of the Lodges to promote the Festival Merchandise on his travels so armed with an additional briefcase full of merchandise a few brethren also had the opportunity to purchase festival gloves and cufflinks!!
The cyclists had been having difficulty with a lift home for this visit due to it clashing with another meeting but Worshipful Brother Neville Warnes stepped in and cam to the rescue, transporting the cyclists back home after the meeting.
Once again an enjoyable and worthwhile visit. Thank you Virtue & Silence Lodge & WBro Warnes.
